The typical range
Most Leicester to Gatwick taxi journeys take around 2.5–3.5 hours. The distance is about 140 miles, making it the longest of our seven regular airport runs. Night-time off-peak can be close to 2.5 hours; daytime and Friday or Sunday holiday traffic is why we quote the wider range.

Why the M25 and M23 set the timetable
The route is M1 south, the M25 to the M23, then the airport. The M25 is the swing factor: a 2.5-hour night run can become 3.5 hours in daytime congestion or after an incident. Gatwick also adds the M23 leg that Heathrow does not have.
We plan collection around the slow case for the time of day you travel, not a best-case sat-nav screenshot. For a flight you cannot rebook, extra waiting at the airport is cheaper than a missed check-in.
North or South terminal
Gatwick has North and South terminals, linked by a free transit shuttle. They are separate buildings, and drop-off and pick-up are terminal-specific. A booking that says only “Gatwick” is incomplete.
Put the terminal from your ticket on the booking. If you land in one terminal and the car is booked to the other, use the shuttle and message the driver before you walk a long way with bags.
Taxi versus train from Leicester
Gatwick Express and Thameslink are London-centric. From Leicester they are a second journey after a train to the capital, with luggage at each change.
A taxi is one vehicle from your door to the correct terminal. It usually costs more than an advance rail ticket, so compare door-to-door for your party. Rail can suit a light, flexible traveller; the car suits families, hold luggage and check-ins that do not wait.
Planning a long ride
Because this is a long ride, agree child seats, extra stops and the vehicle class when you request the quote. Families with holiday luggage usually need an MPV; a solo business traveller can use a saloon but should still expect well over two hours in the seat.
