There is no train from the terminal
East Midlands Airport does not have a passenger rail station. That is the fact most “how do I get to Leicester” searches are really asking about. You will not walk out of arrivals onto a platform. The ground options are a bus (Skylink and similar services), a pre-booked taxi or private hire, or a lift from someone who is driving.
That makes EMA different from Birmingham, Manchester or the London airports, where a rail-shaped itinerary exists even if it is awkward. Here the comparison is honest: public bus versus a car at the door. How far, and how long, in ordinary traffic
Leicester is about 20 miles from EMA. The usual road is the A453 onto the M1 at Junction 23A or 24, then north toward the city. Most runs take 30–45 minutes in normal traffic. Morning peak, Friday holiday getaways and anything that stops the M1 between the airport and Leicester are why the range is not a single number.
