Leicester to Gatwick Taxi
Gatwick is the longest of our regular Leicester runs: M1, M25, M23, then a North or South terminal that are separate buildings with a shuttle between them. It is the right airport when that is where the flight is, not a substitute for Heathrow. People book a taxi when the train (Leicester to London, then Thameslink or Gatwick Express) is too many legs with too much luggage.

Terminals
Gatwick has North and South terminals, linked by a free transit shuttle. Drop-off and pick-up are terminal-specific. A booking that says only “Gatwick” is incomplete — North versus South changes where the car actually stops.
The road from Leicester
How the Gatwick run actually feels.
The standard road is M1 south, M25 anti-clockwise or clockwise to the M23, then the airport. The M25 is the swing factor: a 2.5-hour night run can become 3.5 hours in daytime congestion or after an incident. We do not pretend a Leicester–Gatwick booking is a short hop.
- North and South terminals are different buildings; the shuttle is for passengers, not a reason to send the car to the wrong one.
- At about 140 miles this is the longest of the seven regular Leicester airport runs, and the most exposed to M25 delay.
- Night-time off-peak can be close to 2.5 hours; daytime and Friday/Sunday holiday traffic is why we quote a 2.5–3.5 hour range.
- Gatwick Express and Thameslink are London-centric; from Leicester they are a second journey after a train to the capital.
- Because the ride is long, agreeing extra stops, child seats and the vehicle class up front matters more than on an EMA booking.

Drop-off at the correct terminal forecourt (charges may apply). For arrivals, meet-and-greet in that terminal, or pick-up from the designated area after you ride the shuttle if you landed in the other building. If your ticket and the live airport screens disagree, message the driver before you walk.

This is a long ride. Families and holiday luggage belong in an MPV more often than not. A solo business traveller can use a saloon, but should still expect well over two hours in the seat. Say if you want extra stops (for example a London hotel on the way) — those need agreeing, not assuming.

How long is a taxi from Leicester to Gatwick?

North or South terminal — does it matter?
Yes. They are separate buildings. Put the terminal from your ticket on the booking. If you land in one and the car is booked to the other, use the shuttle and tell the driver before you walk a long way with bags.
Is Gatwick much longer than Heathrow from Leicester?
Usually yes. Heathrow is typically around 2–2.5 hours; Gatwick is typically 2.5–3.5 because of the extra M23 leg and more M25. Book the airport you fly from, and give the road the time it actually needs.
